To celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day next Monday, we will explore the powerful words of Dr. King.
What is the meaning of Dr. King's message? Share an example of a world event where this has proven to be true. You need to type at least 5 sentences to explain the meaning of his words.
When Martin Luther King Jr. said that, he meant that fighting will not solve every problem, only peace can do that. He showed an example of this when he never shot one bullet when he fought for his freedom. He was saying that you can't always solve your problems the easy way, even if it is faster. He's also saying that you'll never get anywhere if you solve your problems the easy way around. He's saying that if someone is being mean to you, and you be mean right back, neither of you will get anywhere.

Martin Luther King Jr. meant hatred cannot solve problems. Peace and love can solve problems in the real world. When people kept slaves, hatred didn't solve problems. When African-Americans were disliked, hating them just made things worse. If you think about it, MLK's words they explain that even if hating everything, everyone in life might be the easy way out, but if you hate everything, you do not understand the meaning of life. The meaning of life is a chance to do things you never thought you could do. Think about it this way, hating is like being locked in a room, you do not get to know people. Being locked in a room, you do not get to explore the meaning of life. Life is a gift only you can open.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s words mean that arguing/fighting won't get you anywhere in life. If 2 people fight they won't compromise, but if they peacefully talk it out you may be able to come to an agreement. If some one is being mean to you show them the goodness by your own behavior. Always help others, never criticize others. Try to be nice, helpful, and kind to others.

Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. words mean that hating each other won't get rid of anything. Only love can do stop hate. For example if you hate someone else, you both might get into a big argument. But if you both are in a peaceful argument, you might be able to agree on something. So you always have to act peacefully, not being hateful of someone.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s words mean that being mean and talking back won't get you anywhere. It will also never solve problems or arguments. If someone is bothering you, don't talk back in a mean way, just tell them something nice about them instead. Also, if you are having a (verbal) fight, you shouldn't be mean to the other person even if they are mean to you. If you are mean though, it will never solve the argument because hatred will not defeat hatred, only friendship will.

This statement has been prove to be true when Mahatma Ghandi told others not to fight with weapons, but to argue with words. I have one scenario to support Martin Luther King Jr.'s statement. Two people do not have to fight with fists. They can easily just find another way out of the situation. This is my opinion on the statement.

MLK. Rings a bell, doesn't it? About freedom, appreciation, blah, blah, blah. But it has the meaning of life, peace, and happiness. Did you ever wonder if racism struck out all by itself? It didn't! It started with MLK, and will end with only MLK himself. Does it matter that he is gone? No, it doesn't! Some of his quotes will stay with us in improving our life. This quote means that we have a weapon in our hands, and we hope never to use it. The weapon(s) is DARKNESS and HATE. We bring hate out whenever we want to. And darkness comes with it. Some people use it for their own good, not even taking a glance at others. Others have a restraint. And care about others. WHO ARE YOU?
One time when this happened . . . Remember the time when you were mad at any person, you started giving them the silent treatment, you wouldn't play with them and made new friends? That is the meaning of hate. Then afterward you probably made friends with them, talked to them, and played with them. That was the meaning of peace and happiness. (After all, what are friends for?) Just because MLK is a person busy with freedom appreciation . . . etc. doesn't mean YOU CAN'T HELP HIM MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE TO THE WORLD!!!!!!! This gift is what you are worthy of . . . open it and you might find a new and amazing life waiting for YOU and dozens of others.

Martin Luther King means that doing bad things will not earn you good things but it will give you bad things. He is saying that we don't need to fight in armor but we can with words. It is clear that he is also saying that everyone is the same, black or white. He wants us to follow what he is saying. It says in his quote, " Darkness cannot drive out darkness; but light can. Hate cannot drive out hate but love can." He wants us to know that we are all the same.

MLK means don't be physical only fight with words. He proved to the whole world that fighting doesn't get you anywhere it just causes you more trouble. Just him alone has made our lives better. Just following Ghandi's he has made the world a better place. What he said just means violence is the key to nothing.

The meaning of Dr. King's message is that the bright side, like light,
can get rid of the bad side, like darkness. Here is another example: If
two people have a disagreement, only an agreement where both people compromise will resolve the problem, not one person using harsh words and so on. One person using harsh words, etc. will only make matters worse. Also, people hating each other greatly will make them never form a friendship, so love shall resolve this, as Martin Luther King Jr. stated. Always, peace is the right way to go.

Martin Luthur King Jr. means that hate and darkness won't drive out itself. Only peace, light, and love do that. He also means don't fight physically, but instead with words. Violence won't get you anywhere, but words can. This is the meaning of his quote,"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

Martin Luther King Jr.'s words mean that the opposite can only take out anything bad. You can not drive out hate with hate but only with love. If someone is being mean to you, you shouldn't be mean back because it will only make matters worse. If you try to resolve things you can make an agreement instead of a big fight. Also dark can not take out dark only light can. This explains how only opposites can take out bad things.

I think this statement means that if you put hate in your heart and other hearts it won't drive away hate. The only thing that can do that according to the quote, is love.So basically if you put darkness and darkness it will only create more darkness. But if you put some light the darkness brightens up. So if you put more and more hate to this world, nothing good would happen like war. Instead love and everything would be fine.

When Marthin Luther King, Jr. uttered these words, he meant that fighting and hating others will not stop people from quarreling and loathing. What he said meant that only peace will stop hatred of others. If someone was mean to you, and you bullied him back, it would only make things worse. Instead, if you were nice to him, the dislike between the bully and you might ease. This was shown when MLK never shot a bullet or raised a hand against someone during the discrimination of African- Americans. The lesson that was taught by MLK can be used in real life, like when someone's bullying you at school. Definitely, Marthin Luther King, Jr.'s teachings of non-violence is important to learn.

What Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. meant was darkness cannot resolve a problem, only light can. Also, what Dr. Jr. meant was hate will not do any good, love will. This is true in case of Mahatma Gandhi who got freedom to India with out violence. He was a peace lover (so was Dr. King!) Thus, this is what I think about Dr. Jr. 's words.

When MLK said the quote he meant that fighting can never solve a problem only kindness can. If you are having a PHYSICAL problem never fight, be peaceful and rather fight with WORDS. When you fight do not argue by screaming or hurting the other persons fealing. Talk to each other and be peaceful. Always keep this in mind "Love can't be defeated by hate rather hate can be defeated by love.

What Martin Luther King means is that if two people argue,it will go on forever. But if one person is being mean to another person, that one person can be nice to that mean one. Then that mean friend will be forgiving. He also means that no matter how much you fight, you will never solve the problem. This is what Dr. King meant.

I think that Martin Luther King Jr. meant that fighting doesn't solve problems, WORDS CAN!!! In a problem, have you ever noticed a problem being solved by hatred? Well I haven't. Whenever people get into fights, they mostly scream at one another and hit each other, but does that solve the problem? No, it doesn't. All it does is create more rifts between your friendship(s.) Using this example, you can understand that words can solve problems not violence or screaming.

I think that this quote means that if there is only quarreling and no peace whatsoever, nobody would be able to drive away the confusion which comes with the act of fighting. Doctor Martin Luther King Junior used an example to show what he really meant. This example was that if we all were in darkness, we all could not see if we had darkness inside us. The darkness resembles our quarreling and fighting, and if we just kept on quarreling, we would just be bringing more darkness in to the world. The only thing that would actually reveal all the things needed to improve on inside of you would be a light, which in this case, is used a an analogy of peace. The light is the representation of peace because only peace will allow you to see all the good characters and benefits some things have to offer. This is a valuable lesson that can definitely be applied to the lives of everyone.

I think Martin Luther King Jr.'s quote meant that when people get into a fight, (hate(in the quote)) the fight will never be solved if they keep on showing hate, and never love. When someone shows love, it makes you and the other person feel good, and most likely, both of you will become friends. Same with darkness. When everything is dark, you can't drive out the darkness by adding more darkness into it. Instead, you can light up the place, and the darkness will be gone. The darkness is just another way of saying the fight, or hate, and the light is just another way of saying love, or peace. Love, peace, and maybe light will make you feel good, you will have more friends, and you will no longer have to in a fight. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to show everyone that even though some people aren't doing the right thing, or being harmful to you, you shouldn't harm them. Sort of like the Golden Rule. Clearly, I think that this is what Martin Luther King Jr. meant by his quote.

What I think Martin Luther King meant by saying this is that violence cannot solve any problems. Only if you cooperate peacefully you can solve a problem. If you treat a person with hate that's what you get back. The other person will also treat you with hate. Then the problem will get bigger and bigger until you might start a physical fight with the other person ending up hurting the person. So instead you should instead you should be peaceful and ready to solve the problems. I believe that Martin Luther King's words are correct. In my opinion this is the meaning of Martin Luther King's words.

Dr.MLK Jr. means that if your heart is dark more dark words can not make it feel better. But light, gentle, and caring words make it feel better. Example: if a girl feels sad and lonely, you could make her feel better by saying caring words to her. But if you say mean words then you can just make her feel sadder. Dr.MLK Jr. means in other words is: be nice to every one and hate no one. Do not highlight differences between people and care for every body.

I think what Martin Luther King Jr. means by this is that too much of something cannot wipe the whole thing out. In this message, Martin Luther King Jr. gives 2 examples. He said that only light can wipe out darkness and that only love can wipe out hate. I agree with him. Another example for this is that only peace can stop fighting. Fighting does not always help. It doesn't always get you anywhere, either.

When Martin Luther King Jr. said this statement he meant that bad can't drive out bad, only good can do that. Martin Luther King Jr. stood up for what was good. The white people were getting more better things than the African-Americans. They got white, clean water fountains, but African-Americans got dirty water fountains. They could not go to the same school, drink at the same water fountain, or get to play together. Martin Luther King Jr. had white friends but couldn't play with them. The African-Americans didn't get treated as well as the white people. The white people got to sit in the front of the bus when the others had to sit in the back. Rosa Park also stood up for what was right. She was sitting in the front and a white person came. She was suppose to get up and give her seat to that man, but she refused. Rosa Park just sat there and didn't get up, she stood up for what was right. For that reason she got sent to jail. Also for that reason, Martin Luther King Jr. started a bus boycott. Many others joined him on the strike he had started. They went on for a few months until they got what was right. After sometime, they let them sit where ever they wanted because if the African-Americans didn't ride, the bus drivers wouldn't get money. For all the reasons I gave, all the people stood up for what was right. They didn't use their hands to solve the problems, they used their mouths. They didn't use fighting to get their way, they used their words.

What Martin Luther King Jr. means is that fighting or arguing about something will only create hatred and violence. Darkness can not solve anything but light can. Hatred will only create bad memories but love will affect not only a little but a large portion of the mind, soul, and heart. Gandhi did not win freedom by violence. He was a peace lover as Martin Luther King Jr. was. Life is precious and it can be torn apart from the slightest threat. Life is a thing that only you can open. It is a path to many wonders.

This quote means that if someone does something bad to you, you can not solve the problem by doing something bad back. But if you are nice back it will be okay. Martin Luther King believed in non-violence and he expressed it through this quote. He also believed that everyone was equal. So this is what this quote means.

There is a good side and a bad side in decisions. The ones who always choose the good side are on the right path to a bright future. The bad side leads to some misfortunes and paves a dark road the wrong way. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s saying means that two opposites are trying to overcome each other, and the good part always conquers the other, so you should do the right things. For example, in Luther's days, blacks were treated cruelly with no mercy. Some people used violence to fight the other people, and often ended up in jail, or got hurt. Rosa Parks, for example was like Martin Luther King. She used actions to show that she had a very strong will and she that she thought the actions shown to blacks were unjust. What she did was that she refused to give up her seat for a white man on the bus. She was the one who started the bus boycott. But, there are many chances that you can get punished for doing the right thing by people who think your actions are wrong. King was put in jail many times by speaking in public about the wrong treatment to blacks. Many people do not realize that words have a powerful effect in life. People who know that often say that words (gossip) travels faster than a bonfire. This saying reminds of a story about a traveler, wind, and the sun. The strong wind and the shining sun were competing to try take the traveler's cloak off.The wind blew as hard as it could, but it could not force the traveler to take his cloak off. That was because he pulled it around him tighter because of the cold. The sun then tried. The traveler became so hot that he took his cloak off. This story means that reckless violence does nothing, but a prudent person's wise thoughts can have a whole lot better effect. Even though Martin got criticized by his public speeches, he never gave up. One famous speech called "I have a Dream" changed the heart of American people and America forever. It had shown all the determination in him and the unmerciful behavior shown to him and his kind; his hope for everyone to flourish.

I think that Martin Luther King Junior's saying means that only good can get rid of the evil. Only the light, or peace and harmony, can keep on growing because there is always a way to help others. In the beginning, Helen Keller was very rude and always screamed at her governesses. No one wanted to stay with her. Ann Sullivan was very patient and kind to Helen Keller unlike her other governesses. Ann came up with several ways to help Keller learn and communicate. Helen became a very good student and went to college. Later Helen Keller started helping other blind and deaf people.

I think the most famous speech about fighting darkness is "I Have A Dream." In that speech, he talks about standing as one. Because of his speech, a lot of people changed their perspective of the black people. That is the most famous and powerful speech made by him that had a large effect on the people and made Martin Luther King Jr. A very respectable person.

MLK means you can't fight against someone with their same force.
It's like saying 1=1 so, darkness=darkness. But,light can outstand
or stand up to darkness. Same, hate=hate love can fight the hate inside. Love can beat hate with feeling and affection.

Sort of like two no's do not equal a yes.Another example is, if a lot of people do something wrong, that doesn't make okay for you to do it or make it right. That is what I think Martin Luther King means when he says "DARKNESS CANNOT DRIVE OUT DARKNESS;ONLY LIGHT CAN DO THAT HATE CANNOT DRIVE OUT HATE ONLY LOVE CAN DO THAT."
