.: Homework Policies :.
Homework is a powerful tool for learning and a necessary part of any student’s successful mastery of skills and knowledge. I believe homework serves as an extension of the learning experience. Homework is designed in accordance with the school homework policy (45-60 min/per night) Monday – Thursday. On the weekends, I do not assign formal assignments, but students may use the time to read, research, write in their journal and work on long term book reports.
Homework due dates will be given on the day it is assigned. I expect students to complete all assignments neatly and submit in a timely manner. If there is a problem, please send a note/e-mail so that I can help your child. The first time an assignment is not completed, I will speak with your child to see if I can help. After that, students will contact you directly when assignments are not completed on time.
Because I feel that it is important for students to learn good study habits, I have devised a system that allows students to learn responsibility and organizational skill:
Student’s Responsibility: He/She will copy homework assignments daily at the end of the day. Students are expected to complete the assignments neatly and cross out completed assignments from their planner. Students will put completed work in their homework binder and place the binder in their backpack. I encourage students to pack all supplies and assignments nightly.
Parent’s Responsibility: Please reinforce this system and process with your student and ask to see your child’s planner each day. You can also check the class’s webpage for all homework assignments. You can help your child do well on homework assignments by setting aside a quiet study time each night, encouraging good work habits, and contacting me if there is a problem we can solve together.
Teacher’s Responsibility: I will list all homework assignments on the board and website. At the end of each school day, I will give students class time to copy down homework assignments. I will periodically spot check students’ planner to ensure that students are following the homework routine.
